SUNDAY 9TH SEPTEMBER 2001 Having secured the western division title, Springvale were pitted against the eastern winners Highcroft, in the champions final. Highcroft due to a better divisional record hosted the final. FIRST INNINGS Springvale batted first and started brightly with an opening stand of 88 from Dave Bennett and Richard Gray. Dave was dislodged, bowled for 50 from 67 balls and was replaced by Michael Hunt, who with Richard took the score on to 187-1, a partnership of 99, before Richard was bowled for 47. Warren Foster pinch hitting at number 4 was bowled trying to push the run rate up for 4. In at number 5, skipper Graham Smart supported Michael as he took control of the bowling to reach his half century and when he was finally dismissed for 71 the score was 226-4. Michael was replaced by Steve Lee and was soon joined back in the pavilion 2 runs later by Graham, lbw for 19. Gavin Baker got to the crease with one over remaining and proceeded to help himself to 12 not out from the last six balls including one giant six. Which with Steve, 2 not out at the other end the innings closed at 248-5 from 45 overs.
